Synopsis
Sex, Drugs, Rock, Religion and Politics …
A New Tomorrow is a mockumentary that skewers the Christian right, lampoons dysfunctional Democrats, takes aim at the war in Iraq and bashes the Bush administration. Joby, a novice filmmaker in Venison, USA, interviews a small group of conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats about the town’s mayoral race. As he examines their lives, we see the campaigning and maneuvering on either side of the political divide. On the right is a gaggle of Christian trophy wives: a phony, elitist homemaker, a homophobic seductress, a Bible-talking savant and a former junkie-whore. Their candidate is Mayor Skip Winkle, the incumbent, a religious, rich-boy, capitalistic warmonger. On the left is a mixed bag of nuts: a medieval battle re-enacting nerd, a foul-mouthed high school art teacher and her slick, ad copywriter husband, a mentally challenged wannabe classic rocker and his wife, a wound-too-tight dating service entrepreneur. Their candidate is Tip Whitehead, a wishy-washy, finger-pointing would-be idealist. As far apart as they are, they have a lot in common: they know who should be mayor, they know how to party – and they have strong opinions about sex, religion, politics, booze, drugs, jousting, music, gay people, the candidates -- and each other. With eccentric characters, irreverent dialogue and outrageous political commentary, A New Tomorrow provides insight into – and pokes fun at – how we vote in America.
