AWARD WINNING DOCUMENTARY FILM, PURSUIT OF EQUALITY, HIGHLIGHTS CALIFORNIA’S LARGEST STATEWIDE VISIBILITY PUSH EVER CONDUCTED FOR THE FREEDOM TO MARRY Published: 01 May, 2008
GEOFF CALLAN AND MIKE SHAW'S AWARD WINNING DOCUMENTARY FILM, PURSUIT OF EQUALITY, HIGHLIGHTS CALIFORNIA’S LARGEST STATEWIDE VISIBILITY PUSH EVER CONDUCTED FOR THE FREEDOM TO MARRY.

With the Supreme Court of California preparing to rule on this issue, and opponents pushing an an initiative to ban same-sex marraige in the state's Constitution, now is the time to watch this amazing film and learn the issues behind this amazing Civil Rights issue.

“Anyone active in the fight for marriage equality, on either side, will recall the omni-presence of filmmakers Geoff Callan and Mike Shaw (two straight men) during every critical step of this fight. They have unbelievable inside footage– it is fantastic reality drama – told by master filmmakers –this film captures the essence of the fight for marriage equality from all angles,” said Molly McKay of Marriage Equality USA.

SYNOPSIS

By issuing same-sex marriage licenses, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom uproots the status quo and attempts to change the way the United States of America looks at life, love, and marriage.

PURSUIT OF EQUALITY is an emotionally charged film that puts a face on American citizens who strive for marriage.

From the first frame of the film, even before the press is aware, this film crew is with Mayor Gavin Newsom’s senior staff as the nation’s first same-sex couple exchange their vows and ignite the most controversial civil rights topic in recent history.

The story continues on the streets, in the courtrooms, and on the steps of City Hall, where same-sex couples, finally validated on the happiest day of their lives, clash with church groups who declare that who they are and how they love is a sin. In life changing moments, this film documents the elation and despair of couples and families who are fighting for their right to protect each other.

As the only film crew in the Mayors Chambers during the most crucial of times, this extraordinary film provides a telling ‘fly-on-the wall’ view of every turn as this historic event unfolds.

While featuring heartfelt personal stories on the issue of equality, this film exposes the many sides of the same-sex marriage debate.

As we prepare for national distribution in 2007, we believe that we have created
a film that will bring people together and provide a deeper understanding
of civil liberties and current day discrimination.
