Description

Following the conception, commissioning, fabrication and installation of Lawrence Argent's traffic-stopping public art piece, “I see what you mean,” at the Denver Convention Center, BIG BLUE BEAR reveals the process behind the creation of an icon.
"We've forgotten how to play," says Argent, who describes how the nature of both creating and perceiving art needs to be a little less serious and infused with a little more playfulness. After all, it was while playing with his kids that the idea for blue bear originated.
That’s not to say there wasn't plenty of serious work to bring the 40-plus foot bear to reality. The process by which the piece was made, from computer modeling to building it piecemeal in California, has pushed the limits of the current technology, and, as fabricator Bill Kreysler points out, possibly opens a "new era" in how things are made.
BIG BLUE BEAR is a candid glimpse into the creative process and an exploration of the relationship between art and technology.
